Local History
In 1984, local residents began to grow vegetables on some wasteland adjacent to Harleyford Road. The Harleyford Road Garden Association was set up to undertake a feasibility study to turn the wasteland into a community garden. The garden was designed and laid out between 1986 and 1988 and continues to be maintained by local residents. The gardens have a mix of wild and formal areas. It is the only accessible wildlife site in the neighbourhood.
The garden includes a children’s play area, picnic facilities, pond and a short cut through to Bonnington Square from 10:00 to 17:00. Also worth a visit is the Bonnington Square ’Pleasure’ Garden.
